Before bringing in furniture

Take wide photos and close-ups of damage before items block the view.
Look for stains, cracks, holes, scratches, moisture, or loose trim.
Record locks, screens, handles, blinds, and sticking doors.
Note cleanliness, dents, missing parts, unusual sounds, or error lights.

Safety and services

Follow local rules and ask landlord/property manager if something is missing or not working.
Photos can help avoid billing confusion.
Document anything not working at move-in.
Know where water shutoff and electrical panel are, if accessible.

Keys and access

Record what you received and what each key opens.
Mailbox, parcel room, intercom, and delivery instructions.
Take photos of assigned parking or storage condition if relevant.
Maintenance, emergency line, office hours, and online portal.

Communication

Use the official move-in form or written message if available.
Save photos, forms, emails, and replies.
Request repairs and permissions in writing.
Report leaks, locks, alarms, electrical issues, or hazards promptly.

How to use this checklist

Review the items before the task starts, not only at the last minute. Check off what applies, copy the unfinished items if you need a short action list, and save relevant receipts, photos, dates, and contact names in your own records.

Some items may not apply to your situation. Local rules, official guidance, product instructions, building policies, insurance requirements, and qualified professional advice should take priority where they apply.
